The death of Teuku Umar

In February 1899, General Van Heutsz received reports from his spies about the arrival of Teuku Umar in Meulaboh, and immediately placed a number of strong troops on the border of Meulaboh. The night before February 11, 1899 Teuku Umar with his troops arrived in the suburb of Meulaboh. The Aceh troops were surprised when Van Heutsz's troops intercepted. The position of Umar's army was unfavorable and impossible to retreat. The only way to save his army was to fight. In the battle Teuku Umar was killed by enemy bullets that pierced his chest.

His body was buried in Mesjid Kampung Mugo in Hulu Meulaboh River. Hearing the news of the death of her husband, Cut Nyak Dhien very sad, but that does not mean the struggle has ended. With the death of her husband, Cut Nyak Dhien is determined to continue the struggle of the people of Aceh against the Dutch. He also took over the leadership of resistance fighters Aceh.
